STANDBY-inspired by Professor
As a professor, TV News producer, writer, mother and wife, Prof. Keren Henderson is a woman of strength and expertise who entered journalism following in the footsteps of her lifelong mentor, her father. Now an educator preparing the next generation of journalists, she believes a good teacher must have two critical traits: kindness and patience. These qualities appear to play out in her own classes, as she relates easily to students in a casual and relaxed atmosphere. Standby’s most noteworthy feature — its extreme stroke-width variation — was inspired by Prof. Henderson’s many and varied professional, personal and pedagogical capabilities, not the least of which is time management. The name of the typeface, which pays homage to that particular skill, is a TV production term that instructs everyone on set to prepare for the start of a live program or recording. Coincidentally, it also applies rather nicely to her turn as a mentor, standing by those who will then follow her.
